friends like family

"I wonder what Piglet is doing," thought Pooh.
"I wish I were there to be doing it, too."

Although I have made some amazing, kind, and incredibly fun friends here in New Orleans, I still find myself missing my college girlfriends terribly. There's something about the friendships I formed in those 4 years that will never be matched. We were all thrown together by chance, but became inseparable, relying on each other for almost everything and becoming like family. Whether I needed a buddy for long afternoon walks, a shoulder to cry on, a ride to 7-11 for chips at 1 AM, someone to lounge with me for hours upon end watching re-runs of 'Friends' or simply someone to sit on the porch with me and talk about nothing important, these girls were always there. We saw each other at our best and our worst, which created a bond that spans the distance that now separates us all. I would give anything for just one more day at the Hilltop house in Fort Worth: music blaring, clothes flying out of closets and onto bodies, porch conversations, concocting drinks in the kitchen, laughing about the previous night's adventures and mishaps. Some of my sweetest memories happened in that house with these girls, and while new ones have and surely will continue to be made, they will never replace those from the Hilltop house with my college family.

  1. Hilltop holds a special place in my heart. It was a wonderful, safe, nurturing gathering place for so many great folks.
